Copper #1 should be clean in appearance; it should be uncoated and free of fittings, insulation, soder and show few signs of corrosion.
Items with copper #1 include plumbing materials such ss pipes, heat exchangers, coins, jewelry, cookware, some unwashed agricultural products, some commercial gardening products, bus bars, clippings, commutator segments, and wire of at least 1/16th of an inch in diameter.
Copper #2 is dirty or has some oxidation, it will have solder, paint or any kind of coating that would metal not look pure.
Items with copper #2 include Pipe, Solid Metal, Tubing, Wire must be bare of insulation and thinner than a 16th of an inch in diameter
You might think you have Copper #2 and it turns out to be Copper #1, so bring it in and our experts will let you know
Bare Bright Copper Wire Bright and Shiny Copper wire that is exclusively bare of insulation, uncoated and unalloyed.
Wire or cable should be free of insulation and other materials and no thinner than 16 gauge in thickness.
Copper Piping is not included within this classification.
Insulated Wire #1 is wire that consist of copper wire or cable that has a single plastic insulated layer on the outside; it should be clean, unalloyed, uncoated, and untinned, 16 gauge thickness or larger, with all ends cut off.
To increase the price of your wire you can strip it and bump it to bare bright copper wire.
Insulated Wire #2 is wire that has copper wire that may have heavy plastic or double or insulation. It may have coatings on the scrap, such as tin and nickel, and it could have a degree of corrosion to it.
Items with Insulated Copper Wire #2 include common types of telecommunications wiring, electronic cable cords and extension cords.

Large ones can be found in units that cool large industrial buildings, and smaller ones can be found in old or broken air conditioner at home.
